Gagging For It... How To Choose A Gag
Gags are used on a daily basis, across the country, as part of many couple’s sex lives. However, the reasons for using gags can differ and yours will influence the type of gag you choose.
Why wear a gag?
Primarily, gags are used in BDSM. They can simply be used to prevent the wearer from speaking. This heightens their sense of helplessness and sexual frustration, as they cannot guide the sex, vocally; it deprives them of power and increases that of the other participant. For others, gags are used in humiliation fetishes; the sight of a person unable to swallow and covered in drool can be a turn-on for some fetishists. Some gags are designed to fill the mouth, while others are designed to keep the mouth open, giving access in oral sex. There are three main types of gag: over the mouth, mouth-stuffing or mouth-opening.
Examples of gags
The Ball Gag is a good example of a mouth-stuffing gag. It consists of a rubber or silicone ball, held in the mouth by straps. Its purpose is one of humiliation, rather than silence; the wearer can still be heard, although their sounds will be unintelligible. In addition, it distorts the wearer’s features and promotes drooling. A Wiffle gag is a variant, generally considered safer because it is smaller and there is constant airflow. The Detective Gag is where most people begin. Simply, it is a scarf or bandana tied over the mouth, as opposed to between the teeth. Detective Gags are used mostly in role-play situations. Medical Gags are used in bondage pornography and keep the mouth open. One of the most popular, the Whitehead Gag, consists of two, hinged metal frames that fit in behind the wearer’s teeth and keep the jaws open through a locking mechanism. There are many more kinds of gag, such as harness gags and mouth corsets, but it is important that your partner is consenting and that you have arranged a safety-word or safety-signal before you put the item to use. Used safely, gags can add an extra dimension to your sex life.
